Caboolture River flows into Deception Bay south of Bribie Island, between the suburbs of Beachmere and Deception Bay. Eighteen kilometres upstream, it is the river seen from the Bruce Highway and Captain Whish bridge going north just before the Caboolture and Bribie Island turnoffs. This is a tidal mangrove area. It offers pleasant paddling. The upstream section terminates two kilometres up from Captain Whish bridge at a high concrete weir. Access to this launching point is from Rafting Ground Park, off William Street, Caboolture. There is a small track down to the river, behind the children's sandpit. A sandstone shelf above the water offers the best place to launch. At times other than high tide this can be a difficult slippery place to put in or take out a canoe.

Downstream access is from the Beachmere ramp on Saint Smith Road, Beachmere. It is almost directly opposite the Uhlmann Road ramp, described in the Burpengary Creek section. There is a pleasant paddle to be had at high tide, from the ramp down to Deception Bay, and then north along the bay past Beachmere. This will probably suite estuary kayaks, white water kayaks and sea kayaks, all with a spraydeck. If you have a sit on top, or a canoe, be prepared for choppy waves, and wind, if you try this.

There are few launch points as you go upstream, as the bank is often a two metre high drop, with thick sticky mud on the shore. It may be possible at high tide to put in or take out next to Beachmere Road just before the Riversleigh Road turnoff. On longer paddle trips consider the effects of falling tides and strong winds. Two hours before and after a high tide are recommended for paddling. Bring an old cloth to wipe down your boat after.
